13899177 - A composite of the November 11, 2019 Transit of Mercury across the disk of the Sun, on a day with no sunspots on the Sun. The temperature was about -20° C to -15° C this morning but the sky was perfectly clear.
13898872 - Mercury at the middle of its transit across the Sun on November 11, 2019, here at 8:19 a.m. MST. This was and is as close to the centre of the Sun’s disk as Mercury will come in any transit of the 21st century. So this is a unique view.
13999521 - The October 14,2023 annular solar eclipse,in a series of images captured at second contact with the Moon tangent to the inside limb of the Sun,at 10:27 am MDT at the site I used. This site was the Ruby's Inn Overlook on the rim of Bryce Canyon,Utah,a site well south of the centreline, with 3m03s of annularity. This was shot at the start of annularity.
13998567 - The October 14,2023 annular solar eclipse,in a single image captured at mid-eclipse,at 10:29 am MDT at the site I used. This site was the Ruby's Inn Overlook on the rim of Bryce Canyon,Utah,a site well south of the centreline, with 3m03s of annularity. Being south of the centreline moved the Moon to the north side of the Sun,so the Moon is offset from the centre of the Sun's disk.
13899770 - A composite of the November 11, 2019 Transit of Mercury across the disk of the Sun, on a day with no sunspots on the Sun. The temperature was about -20° C to -15° C this morning but the sky was perfectly clear.
13998429 - This is a composite of the October 14,2023 annular solar eclipse at second contact. It illustrates the irregular edge of the Moon breaking up the rim of sunlight as the dark disk of the Moon became tangent to the inner edge of the Sun at second contact at the start of annularity. This is a blend of fifteen exposures taken over 20 seconds at second contact.
13795938 - Hadrian's Arch Gate Sun Ancient Roman City Jerash, Jordan. Jerash came to power 300 BC to 100 AD and was a city through 600 AD. Not conquered until 1112 AD by Crusaders. Famous Trading Center. Most original Roman City in the Middle East.

14249247 - This is a wide-field view of the April 8, 2024 total eclipse of the Sun, taking in the bright planets Jupiter (at top) and Venus (below) that were easily visible to the unaided eye during totality. Here the Sun appears only as its outer atmosphere, the corona, in shades of yellow and blue, surrounding the dark disk of the Moon.
14249105 - This is the total eclipse of the Sun of April 8, 2024, in a blend of two exposures to display all the fiery pink prominences that were visible during totality around the lunar disk in one image, set against the bright inner corona of the Sun with the dark disk of the Moon in silhouette in front of the Sun.
14248685 - This is a single exposure of the end of totality (Third Contact or C3) of the April 8, 2024 total eclipse of the Sun. It shows the numerous pink prominences along that limb of the Sun and shows the first burst of light from the Sun's photosphere shining through a lunar valley or crater. The bright inner corona also shows up even at this short single exposure. High cirrus clouds added some glow to the diamond ring burst.

13999146 - Comet Nishimura (C/2023 P1) captured at dawn on September 7,2023 with the sky brightening with morning twilight colours. The comet was set amid the stars of the Sickle asterism of Leo the Lion, just rising in the east. The comet sports a faint blue ion tail, with the comet seemingly pointed toward the sunrise point; it was moving down and closer to the Sun at this time.
13998342 - This is a composite that records the sequence around mid-eclipse of the October 14,2023 annular eclipse of the Sun. At this eclipse the Moon was near apogee so its disk was not large enough to completely cover the Sun's photosphere and create a total eclipse.
13900167 - A composite of the August 21, 2017 total solar eclipse showing third contact – the end of totality – with sunlight beginning to reappear and the array of pink prominences along the limb of the Sun. Seconds later the emerging Sun and diamond ring overwhelmed the large prominence.

13999483 - The rising of the Full Moon just before Easter weekend,on Wednesday,April 5,2023,with Good Friday two days later on April 7. The Moon appears quite pink and in a bright blue sky,as moonrise this night was a few minutes before sunset. However, the Sun was in clouds to the northwest and not lighting the foreground.
13998361 - The rising Full Moon of January 6,2023 over the Badlands of Horseshoe Canyon, near Drumheller,Alberta. Here the Moon is set in the pink Belt of Venus and with dark blue crepuscular rays (or more correctly,anti-crepuscular rays) converging on the point directly opposite the Sun. The rays are shadows cast by clouds in the west, which parted enough for a few moments for the setting Sun to light the foreground, making for a colourful contrast between ground and sky.
13898194 - July 21, 2009 total solar eclipse near third contact as shadow leaves the horizon and is about to hit the Sun coming toward us. Totality is about to end. Taken from Northern Cook Islands, at sea on m/s Paul Gauguin. Using 20Da and 28-105mm lens at 60mm at f/5 and ISO100. Mercury, blurred ny ship's motion, at top.

The sky has subtle dark rays converging to the anti-solar point, the point opposite the Sun. These are anti-crepuscular rays – shadows cast by clouds in this case, such as the one at left.
13980462 - Jordan, and oriented north to keep the sun off the spectators,Amman,000 people. It is built into hillside, large and steeply raked theatre could seat about 6,Ancient columns along walkway outside Roman Theatre. Built during reign of Marcus Aurelius
13899519 - This is a stack of images demonstrating the number of satellites passing through the field of a wide-field telescope over a little more an hour. The field frames the Coma Berenices star cluster. This is from my home at 51° North, a latitude more prone to seeing satellites lit by the Sun well into the evening, if not all night closer to summer solstice. Most trails are north-south so they are likely NOT Starlink satellites but polar orbiting satellites. Interesting that the trails have different colours, likely from their solar panels or other structures reflecting blue and gold tints.
13898509 - A low rainbow over the Atlantic Ocean just prior to the total eclipse of the Sun, Nov 3, 2013, from at sea on the Star Flyer sailing ship. This was about 20 minutes before second contact so the sunlight was from a narrow slit of a Sun.

13998445 - The rising Full Moon of January 6,2023 over the Badlands of Horseshoe Canyon, near Drumheller,Alberta. Here the Moon is set a dark blue crepuscular ray (or more correctly,anti-crepuscular ray) converging on the point directly opposite the Sun. The ray was a shadow cast by clouds in the west, which parted enough for a few moments for the setting Sun to light the foreground, making for a colourful contrast between ground and sky.
71445398 - The Sun Voyager (Icelandic: Sólfar) is a sculpture by Jón Gunnar Árnason, located next to the Sæbraut road in Reykjavík, Iceland. Sun Voyager is described as a dreamboat, or an ode to the Sun. The artist intended it to convey the promise of undiscovered territory, a dream of hope, progress and freedom.\nReykjavik, Iceland.
13999047 - Comet 2022 E3 (ZTF) at top,as the green fuzzy star above the semi-circle of stars marking the constellation of Corona Borealis, the Northern Crown. The comet was approaching the Sun and Earth at this time (January 3,2023) and was brightening, but even here was visible in binoculars and sporting a short dust tail and cyan-colored coma. ZTF = Zwicky Transient Facility, the telescope used to discover the comet in early 2022.
13899168 - A scene looking west on January 16, 2015 but with a field stretching up to and beyond the zenith overhead, taking in the Zodiacal Light stretching up to the Pleiades at upper left. Just below the Pleiades is green Comet Lovejoy, with its faint ion tail pointing away from the Sun along the same plane as the Zodiacal Light, as it should. Ion tails always point directly away from the Sun, as they are blown out by the solar wind. Comet Lovejoy was crossing the ecliptic this night, as it heads north in its orbit traveling almost perpendicular to the ecliptic plane.
13898842 - The two-day-old waxing crescent Moon with Earthshine, above Mercury at right, then 4 days past its greatest elongation from the Sun, in the evening sky of May 2, 2022. The star Aldebaran is at left, and below Mercury to the right is the Pleiades, just visible in the twilight and thin clouds.
13898551 - Bright rainbow created by Sun low in west just about to set with raindrops in the air to the east, and light rain falling at the time. Taken with Canon 7D and 10-22mm lens at 10mm, in two sections, stitched together in Photoshop. Note: bright interior region inside inner bow, darker exterior region, supernumerary arcs along inside edge of inner bow at top, reversal of colours in two bows, and bright red portion of the spectrum from very red sunlight from low sun angle. Taken from southern Alberta, Canada.
13897791 - This is the line-up of planets across the southwestern sky on December 6, 2021, consisting of (L to R): Jupiter, Saturn and Venus, with the 2.5-day-old waxing crescent Moon in conjunction below Venus. The Moon had eclipsed the Sun two days before on December 4, when it was on the ecliptic. Two days later it was below the ecliptic line. Jupiter and Saturn are in Capricornus, with its stars all visible here in the evening twilight. The three planets are nicely equally spaced. Such an array makes the ecliptic line visible.
